The US Senate is supposed to pass laws. But today, it’s broken. And it’s broken because of something called the filibuster, which has been part of Senate tradition for over 200 years. God, they say, is in the details. But could God also be in our frontal lobes? Every culture from the dawn of humankind has imagined planes of existence beyond the reach of our senses, spiritual domains that shape our Earthly experiences. Why do beliefs of the fantastic hold such powerful sway over our species? Is there something in our evolutionary history that points to an answer? Does neuroscience hold the key? Straddling the gap between science and religion, Brian Greene is joined by renowned neuroscientists, anthropologists, and evolutionary biologists, to explore one of the most profound mysteries of our existence.

PARTICIPANTS: Lisa Barrett, Barbara J. King, Zoran Josipovic, Steven Pinker

MODERATOR: Brian Greene

Basically a financial market is a machine that takes money from
investors and distributes it to entrepreneurs that need money for their businesses. Those businesses promise a return to the investors. Depending on the business an investment comes with a certain risk. The risk and return profile of a business usually helps investors to
choose where to invest. Sustainable finance takes a look beyond the simple numbers of risk and return: It looks at the impact of the investment. Does the investment have a negative effect on environmental, social or governance aspects?

The cabins of John Deere Forest machines are the undisputable frontrunners in the sector. Rotating and leveling cabins boost work efficiency and productivity and improve ergonomics.
The cabin’s quietness and the good lighting around the machine and the job site improve operator comfort and productivity. Thanks to the automatic leveling, the operator sits upright even on uneven terrain.
The rotating and leveling cabin automatically follows the boom’s movements and gives the operator the best possible direct view to the machine surroundings and the entire logging area. The different work phases are smoothly interlinked, as the cabin can be turned to the best direction for work planning and operator visibility without stopping the machine.

A man was shot during a road rage incident near the Riverview neighborhood in Seattle early Saturday morning, according to police, and the suspect is still outstanding.

At 2:39 a.m., police responded to a call from a witness in the area who heard several shots fired. Officers arrived to the area near the entrance of the Duwamish River Trail and Highland Park Way Southwest, and found a man sitting outside his car with a gun shot wound to his lower back.

Police provided medical aid to the victim while waiting for Seattle Fire Department medics to arrive, and later transported him to Harborview Medical Center where he is recovering.

The suspect involved fled the scene in a sedan-type vehicle, though the direction is unknown. Police canvassed the area and found evidence of the shooting but nothing further. Their investigation continues.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported an uptick in the number of "shots fired" calls related to road rage in 2022, with 133 incidents so far this year.

"It seems like people are just getting a lot more bold on the roadways," said WSP Trooper John Dattilo.

Dattilo said a number of factors could be contributing to the rise.

"Law enforcement - a lot of agencies are struggling with low staffing," Dattilo said. "There's been a lot of changes, especially coming out of COVID, things opening back up, there was a lot of frustration and there was a lot of high emotions during the COVID shutdowns."

For the first in-person New Year's at the Needle celebration since 2019, a unique new element complemented the fireworks show: hundreds of drones.

Sky Elements, a Texas-based drone light show provider, launched 200 drones around the Space Needle during the show, which displayed light formations in the sky, aiming to add "expression and color" to one of the world's largest structurally launched fireworks displays, according to the Space Needle.

"We love to see the crowds come out and just enjoy the spectacle. There's nothing like seeing it in person, fireworks exploding off the needle, lights exploding, and then this year of course drones flying as tall as the Space Needle right next to it in those formations," said Randy Coté, chief marketing officer at the Space Needle.

The drones flew between 200 and 600 feet above the ground, directly north of the Space Needle.

The music accompanying the show encompassed the biggest cultural moments of the past year, including the biggest hits of 2022.

"It's our 31st New Year's at the Needle so we're going into that fourth decade of the celebration, and the Space Needle stands for innovation and forward-thinking so drones perfectly align with that," Coté said.

KING 5 Evening’s Kim Holcomb, Jim Dever, Angela Poe Russell and Saint Bryan hosted the New Year's at the Needle show from T-Mobile Park.

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam on Tuesday provided details about the accident that critically injured actor Jeremy Renner in the Reno, Nevada, area on New Year’s Day. Renner was speaking to a family member when his snowcat — a vehicle used to clear snow — started to roll. The "Avengers" actor was run over by the snowcat when he tried to go back into the driver's seat to stop it, Balaam said, adding that the incident was a tragic accident.
