Environment
As the world has become hyper-hygienic since the pandemic began, plastic is playing an oversized role in the world's environmental problems. This Earth Day, Stephanie Sy looks at how many of the single-use pandemic items are piling up in our landfills and in our environment.

#POLLUTION
#Documentary
Pollution is an alteration of the environment, natural or due to enthronization, by polluting elements. It produces temporary discomfort, disease or permanent damage to life in a given area, and can place the area in imbalance with existing natural cycles. The alteration can be of different origins, chemical or physical.
029 - Air Pollution
In this video Paul Andersen explains how air pollution is any chemicals in the atmosphere that negatively affect human health. Primary pollutants (like CO, VOCs, NOx, SO2, PM, and Lead) as well as secondary pollutants (like Ozone, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid) are included. Regulation of air pollution and technology can mediate the health threat.

A river in the Balkans, known for its stunning natural beauty, has been transformed into a giant floating rubbish heap, amid a spell of bad weather, worsened by long-running mismanagement. Tonnes of plastic bottles, rusty barrels, and other waste has piled up behind a barrier in the Drina River in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

China may be the world's champion of renewable energy, but its actions abroad are not always in line with a country truly committed to fighting climate change. With the United States planning to quit the Paris climate deal, all eyes have been looking to China - the world's biggest polluter - to step up as climate leader. Although the Chinese have announced a raft of measures to combat emissions at home, overseas projects paint a different picture.
Today, China is the world's largest exporter of coal equipment and is involved in the construction of more than 100 foreign coal power plants, including some in countries with huge solar energy potential. So is China exporting its pollution? The team from Down to Earth investigates.

Pork is China's favourite meat. Last year the country produced 50m tonnes -- more than half the world's total -- and as the disposable incomes of China's 1.3bn people rise, their appetite is growing. Nicola Davison investigates the cost to the environment, and asks whether there is a more sustainable option.

A side effect of rapid industrialization and few regulations, China's rivers are often treated as little more than sewers. But as LinkAsia contributor Mark Dreyer reports, an online campaign to clean up the country's water is gathering steam.

China has the worst polluted skies and waterways in the world. Industrial cities are wrapped in gray shrouds and the children are getting sick from lead poisoning or similar types of local pollution. Read more on http://www.crisiswatch.net/env....ironment/PollutionCh
The Chinese government’s war on pollution to combat smoggy cities and black (or purple) water has resulted in more aggressive regulations, fines, and pressure on local officials. At the same time, this top-down approach has also opened up more opportunities for grassroots groups and citizens to take greater part in pollution monitoring, information transparency, and lawsuits. Join CEF on November 3, 2016 for a conversation on the successes and challenges facing Chinese environmental NGO campaigns and citizen legal efforts to halt pollution and protect natural resources.

What Are They, and Why Are They So Important?
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/la....ngley/news/factsheet
“Aerosols are minute particles suspended in the atmosphere. When these particles are sufficiently large, we notice their presence as they scatter and absorb sunlight. Their scattering of sunlight can reduce visibility (haze) and redden sunrises and sunsets.”
