Packed with concrete, cars and crowds, cities are among the most degraded environments on the planet. That is why urban areas are a focus of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
The New York Restoration Project is an example of what can be done to restore urban ecosystems. The project works to expand green spaces and help more people connect with nature in the biggest and most densely populated city in the United States.
The UN Decade launches on 5 June, World Environment Day, the biggest global day to celebrate and take action for the environment. Restoring ecosystems can help us to solve the climate and biodiversity crises as well as meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
Watch this video and visit the UN Decade website for ideas on how you can join #GenerationRestoration this #WorldEnvironmentDay.
