Tens of thousands of Palestinians packed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the final Friday of Ramadan to protest Israel’s settlement-building in the occupied West Bank.
Demonstrators took to the streets to show support for Palestinians who face eviction from their East Jerusalem homes on land claimed by Jewish settlers.
The site where the evictions are taking place is overwhelmingly Palestinian, but the neighbourhood also contains a site revered by religious Jews as the tomb of an ancient high priest, Simon the Just.
The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said the evictions, “if ordered and implemented, would violate Israel’s obligations under international law.
Palestinians living in Gaza also held a demonstration in Beit Lahia on Friday.
