Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams and Dr. Vanessa Allen, Chief, Medical Microbiology, Public Health Ontario Laboratory, delivered an update on the province’s latest COVID-19 cases, reporting 1,958 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the provincial total to 256,960.
Monday’s case count is lower than Sunday’s which saw 2,417 new infections. On Saturday, 2,359 cases were recorded.
It is also fewer than 2,000 new cases as Canada marks the one-year anniversary of the first identified COVID-19 case in the country.
Williams reflected on the pandemic, saying the difference from last year until now is that COVID-19 vaccines are “on the horizon” and urged Ontarians to continue doing their part to overcome this wave of the virus.
