Manitoba’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Brent Roussin is expected to announce new COVID-19 public health restrictions Thursday ahead of the May long weekend.
Earlier in the day, Premier Brian Pallister said Roussin would be detailing new restrictions in an effort to prevent a potential increase in COVID-19 cases as seen after previous holidays.
"Case counts spiked after Thanksgiving, case counts spiked after Easter and Spring break – we can’t have the same thing happen after the May long weekend," Pallister said.
It is not clear what the new restrictions will look like, but Pallister said they would "address gatherings as well as staying at home."
Manitoba reported its highest ever daily case count Thursday, with 603 new infections identified, as well as three deaths of Manitobans with the virus.
