Global National: Jan. 25, 2021 | Canada considering tougher measures to discourage travel

In our top story: The federal government of Canada is considering imposing new measures to restrict who can come into the country and to discourage non-essential travel. Mike Le Couteur reports on what this could mean and has the latest on the delay in COVID-19 vaccines.

COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer Moderna says based on lab tests targeting coronavirus variants, it appears their vaccine does neutralize the strain from the U.K. once both doses have been given. It also works against the South African variant but a booster shot may be required. Crystal Goomansingh explains why you are still encouraged to get the shot and more information on the variants.

The impeachment of former president Donald Trump is inching closer to a trial in the Senate. Late Monday, a procession of House members carried the article of impeachment to the Senate. Trump was impeached earlier in January, the second impeachment he’s faced, for “inciting an insurrection” in connection to the riot that saw his supporters storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Jackson Proskow explains on why such a trial is still taking place even though he has left office.

We’ve learned a great deal about COVID-19 in the last year but new questions keep emerging, so Jeff Semple speaks with experts once more to get answers to your questions.

Since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the country one year ago, public health experts have repeatedly told us this is a marathon, not a sprint, but even marathons have a finish line. But Canada’s race against COVID-19 is still far from over. Eric Sorensen reflects on a year of COVID in Canada.
