Global National: Jan. 20, 2022 | Doctor blamed for New Brunswick COVID-19 outbreak speaks out

After being blamed for a COVID-19 outbreak in New Brunswick, Dr. Jean-Robert Ngola is speaking out in an exclusive interview with Global News. Ross Lord reports on the lawsuit Dr. Ngola has launched against the New Brunswick government and the RCMP, and hears why the physician he says he’s a victim of politics, abuse of power, and racism.

In Ontario, an Intensive Care Unit at Toronto’s Humber River Hospital is dealing with two types of patients: those unvaccinated against COVID-19, and the immunocompromised. Jeff Semple speaks with overwhelmed health-care workers and some of their patients, including those who are not infected with the coronavirus.

And as COVID-19 cases decline in Ontario, the province will start easing restrictions on January 31. Mike Drolet looks at when most measures could be lifted, and why struggling businesses aren’t celebrating.

Four people, including an infant, have been found dead near Emerson, Manitoba, close to the U.S. border. It’s believed they were all trying to enter the U.S. by foot, and died from exposure to freezing temperatures. As Brittany Greenslade reports, now a Florida man has been charged in connection with the case.

U.S. President Joe Biden is calling on Western allies to keep standing in solidarity with Ukraine, as evidence grows a Russian invasion is imminent. Mike Le Couteur explains how Ukrainians are becoming more anxious, and why unity among Western allies may not be so easy.
