Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin and chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang are expected to provide an update on the provincewide shutdown on Friday as the province continues to see a spike in COVID-19 daily cases.
Earlier this week, Strang said it’s highly likely that the shutdown will stretch past the two-week time period, given the extent of the virus’s spread and the aggressive variants.
On April 27, the province ordered the closure of schools, malls, gyms, bars, restaurants and most retail stores – and it closed its borders to all non-essential travel.
Nova Scotia reported 182 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, a new single-day record, as the number of active cases in the province surpassed 1,300.
