Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe, alongside COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force members Dr. Dirk Huyer, coordinator, provincial outbreak response, and Dr. Maxwell Smith, bioethicist, are expected to hold a media briefing on Wednesday to discuss the province’s Ethical Framework for COVID-19 vaccine prioritization and distribution.
The head of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine program said on Tuesday that the province expects to receive the Moderna shot on Wednesday, with immunizations to start in long-term care homes soon after.
Retired Gen. Rick Hillier says roughly 50,000 doses are set to be delivered to four sites, then redistributed to long-term care and retirement homes.
Ontario reported a single-day record of 2,553 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The provincial total now stands at 175,908.
