Alberta premier, chief medical officer provide update on COVID-19 situation in province | LIVE
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will update the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday afternoon.
As of Wednesday, Alberta has 20,938 active cases of COVID-19 across the province, with 1,839 new infections being reported.
Sixty-three per cent of Alberta’s active cases were variants of concern.
It was also announced on Wednesday that the two hardest hit regions in the province would be receiving additional vaccine support.
Alberta’s Johnson & Johnson vaccine shipment, expected to be delivered next Monday, will be directed to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Banff, which are experiencing the highest rates of COVID-19 in the province.
An eligibility age of 30+ years will be set for AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson for those regions. The current age for AstraZeneca eligibility is 40+ years in Alberta.
